Dear John and Alan,
Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. I would very much appreciate if
you could you please give me an idea of how much Audacity is and where I
get it from.
Many thanks again,
Petra

Audacity has a long list of filtering and other tools that could be used
to edit noise out, including a fairly simple noise removal tool for
those you don't want to play around with a lot od technical settings.
Given that you can download it and use it for free you have nothing to
lose.
I also use Cooledit (what is now Audition). I haven't used the tools in
Audacity enough to say how they compare with those in Cooledit, but
Audacity is a sophisticated tool and is constantly being improved. I am
fairly confident that if I took the time I could do pretty much anything
I can do with Cooledit in Audacity. At some point I decided that I
couldn't justify to upgrade Cooledit given that Adobe wants $300 for a
new version. At some point I think they had a $99 upgrade policy for
Cooledit 2000 users but given that I paid only $70 for the latter I
didn't need the addition features in Cooledit Pro (Audition 1.0). It was
a sad day when Syntrillium sold Cooledit to Adobe.
Alan.
