Sweden (trettondag jul.)
But you don't need to go as far as Sweden to find 'Thirteenth Day' for
'Twelfth Night':
In an appendix, 'These are the Epistles taken out of the Old Testament which
are to be read in the church after the use of Salisbury upon certain days of
the year', to his 1534 translation of the New Testament, William Tydale
gives the epistles for 'The twelfth day' [Epiphany] and 'The next Sunday
after the twelfth day'. He repeats some of the same information in the
following section: 'This is the table, wherein you shall find, the Epistles
and the Gospels, after the use of Salisbury', but he consistently uses
instead 'Thirteenth day' for Epiphany. (This has confused his present-day
editor, David Daniell (modern-spelling edition, 1989), who gives
the following gloss to 'On the thirteenth even' [Epiphany Eve]: "That is,
Twelfth Night, January 6: Epiphany.")
