medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The AASS editors were not, as far as I'm aware, in the habit of revising
the texts they edited to make these conform to humanist standards of
Latin syntax; I'm less certain about orthography, though, as a certain
degree of spelling normalization seems to be present here. But other
early modern editors _did_ revise not only the orthography but also the
syntax and sometimes even the vocabulary of the medieval texts that
passed through their hands. When, as in the present instance, the
source document for the AASS text is an early modern printed edition,
the possibility of prior "polishing up" is unfortunately something to
which one should be alert.
Best,
John Dillon
