Dear Louise,
Warm greetings from sunny Southend on the east coast of England. It has
been a glorious day here although it is still mid winter.
I wonder whether people were referring to the “Diabetes gastroparesis”. In
women with diabetes, gastroparesis or delayed emptying of the stomach can
result in nausea and diabetic gastroparesis caused by autonomic
neuropathy, can result from poor glycemic control.
The brief titled “Nausea during pregnancy – The nerve of that GI” in the
Diabetes care in Nova Scotia newsletter provides further information
including how to differentiate between general nausea of pregnancy and
diabetes gastroparesis and the treatment options. You can access the
newsletter on line @
http://diabetescareprogram.ns.ca/newsletter/2003/apr03.pdf (see page 5)
A review on human gastric dysrythmias is also available on line @
http://ajpgi.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/283/1/G8?ck=nck
Health warning – I am neither an obstetrician nor an expert in diabetes
although I do occasionally work with these specialists.
I hope the above information is of some interest.
Warm regards & very best wishes,
Badri
