CALL FOR PAPERS:
GEOGRAPHIES OF THE ACADEMY
RGS-IBG Conference, London (31st August - 2nd September 2005).
These sessions will concentrate on political economy and restructuring of
higher education sector and its effects on the production of geographic
knowledges. Themes explored might include:
* corporatisation of the university and societies;
* rewards for different kinds of research;
* academic labour and labour markets;
* RAE and tenure
The RGS-IBG sessions will be a mix of papers, panellists and open discussion
and we welcome applications for being panel discussants. Contributions that
document, or focus on the potential for strategies of
coping/resistance/transformation in light of such issues, are also
particularly welcome.
The sessions will complement a second event presently being planned for Sept
5-9 in Greece (organised with Costis Hadjimichalis) that will focus on the
structures/substantive content/praxis of disciplines (Anglo-American/English
language hegemony, development of theories/ideas, dissemination via
publishing and conferences, praxis and pedagogy, etc). Details to follow
shortly once confirmed.
As such, we welcome abstracts for the RGS-IBG sessions and expressions of
interest for the workshops in Greece.
Please send a title and an abstract of up to 150 words by the 31st January
2005.
