Dear friends,
I am writing to recommend to you
www.realiclimate.org
This is an excellent new US website for obtaining expert
opinion on current issues in climate change science. The
contributors are highly qualified scientists and good
communicators who argue that they "aim to provide a quick
response to developing stories and provide the context
sometimes missing in mainstream commentary".
Where the website comes into its own is when it takes on
skeptic arguments and media hype. Articles on last week's
Horizon programme on BBC2 about "Global Dimming" are
excellent and specialists in the field put in perspective
the programmes apocalyptic tone ("Global dimming is a
killer. It may have been behind the worst climatic disaster
of recent times, responsible for famine and death on a
biblical scale. And Global Dimming is poised to strike
again).
There is also entertaining critiques of Michael Crichtons
absurd and dangerous climate skeptic thriller "State of
fear".
At last the scientists are fighting back - please tell
others.
Yours
George
