Subject: Request for Assistance
Dear Ms Rennie,
My name is Sophia Yow and I am a researcher at a public broadcaster,
Radio-Television Hong Kong. Right now I am working on a documentary series
about the impact of Chinese people who studied overseas and returned home
with new knowledge and new ideas, and yoru kind assistance in this matter
would be much appreciated.
We are looking for contacts of people who are interested in the Qing
Dynsty's navy development. Between 1875 and 1886, the Qing government sent
several groups navy officers to Europe. Many of them were trained along
side the Royal Navy trainees.
Besides this particular period, we are also interested in stories of Chinese
students prior to the Cultural Revolution, where they gather, their habits
and impressions they left, etc. I will set off on a research trip to Europe
around mid-February, and it would be wonderful if I could meet members of
your organisation who are well-informed on this subject.
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
Best regards,
Sophia yow
