just heard a interview with Jeanne Johnston (founder of the Pacific Tsunami
Museum in Hilo, Hawaii) on the NPR show "Weekend America"....and she
survived the 1946 tsunami there....later she did a study (Master's thesis)
on the effectiveness of an early warning system on mortality due to tsunami
(1946 had none, 1960 has 13 hours of warning!) and found that it only
decreased mortality by only one-third....though one-third of 150,000 is
still a lot.....according to her, as doug suggests, education about tsunami
is more important than early warning
