One was apparently found in a Roman level, within or close to the amphitheatre (obviously representing the remains of an animal used to entertain the crowds), and was identified on site. Dear All,
I was recently reading the following article:
Jones, M.U. 1971, 'Aldborough, 1964: Excavation at the South Gate and Bastion
and Extra Mural Sites,' Yorkshire Archaeological Journal 43: 39-78
and came across a comment that mentioned the animal bones from this site was
given to 'E.S. Higgs for specialist analysis and report, to be published on
another occasion.'
Does anyone know if this report exists? I know that the bones reside in
Helmsley, North Yorkshire, but it would be helpful if anyone could give me any
more information on this assemblage.
Thank you in advance,
Naomi Sewpaul.
