This looks an exciting opportunity for postgrads working on Austrian literature.
Remember that if you apply in good time, WIGS can help with the cost of attending these

CALL FOR PAPERS
Third Postgraduate Workshop on
Current Research in Austrian Literature
This annual workshop offers postgraduate students working in the field of Austrian
literature the opportunity to present their work and discuss aspects of it with colleagues
and other specialists. The third meeting will take place at the Institute of Germanic and
Romance Studies on Thursday 8 June and Friday 9 June 2006, and the organisers
would like to invite offers of papers on this year's theme:
Affiliations: Groups and Movements in Austrian Literature.
Fin-de-Siècle, Jung Wien, Surrealism, Wiener Gruppe,... Austrian literature is often seen
in terms of groups, schools and movements. Authors are labelled according to their
affiliations. To what extent does the differentiation between inside and outside do
violence to the individual work? How is the relationship between the individual and the
group reflected within the literature?
This is designed to be a broad umbrella covering the work of Austrian authors from 1850
to the present day. If you are interested in giving a paper, please send an abstract of not
more than 500 words to the organisers:
Dr Martin Liebscher [log in to unmask]
Ruth Martin [log in to unmask]
Or by post to: Dr Martin Liebscher, Ingeborg Bachmann Centre Co-Ordinator, Institute of
Germanic & Romance Studies, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU,
Telephone: +44 (0)20- 7862 8959.
Abstracts should be submitted by 15 December. If you have any general queries about
