Sorry John!
We'll be running a pilot SMS alerts service in the autumn with one of
our Schools, using a system written in-house (in Perl) that interfaces
with an SMS gateway provider for sending, receiving and delivery status
checking. I certainly think SMS has its uses, but as it is such a
limited medium you have to use it appropriately, e.g. for short news
items or other alerts etc, and direct them to a more efficient medium
(a web page for example) for more info. I know Newcastle are going
live with an SMS service in the autumn, and quite probably others have
done or will be doing so.
Best wishes,
Adrian
