To respond to Prof. Carey as briefly as possible, my original posting
could have been expressed in milder terms, but was entirely appropriate
in pointing out the bad taste of using the tragedy in London as a means
of promoting public transport use. Inclusion of language such as about
how many people terorrists "need to kill" to take away the competitive
advantage of public transport is extremely disrespectful and merits
condemnation.
I called, instead, for an approach that respects the sanctity of each and
every life, and does not regard humanity as a means to any objective, but only
as an end.
