Subject: First announcement of Fall HEPiX meeting at SLAC
Dear Colleagues,
The Fall 2005 HEPiX meeting will be hosted by SLAC during the week of
October 10 through 14. This is the first bulletin of the meeting
schedule and call for papers.
I apologize for our tardiness in getting out this announcement. I had a
serious bike accident* three weeks ago, and am still not back to work,
which set back our conference planning. We hope to have the conference
Web site up soon with more information and will send out another email
at that point. Until then, talk submissions or questions can be sent to

SCHEDULE
The schedule will be an initial SIG day on Monday October 10 on
collaboration tools, the main meeting on Tuesday through Thursday, and a
half day SIG session on Friday on architectures/infrastructure/ machine
room issues. Depending on interest, we may decide to shorten the main
meeting to 2.5 days and start the architecture SIG on Thursday at
midday.
AGENDA
We need to start scheduling sessions for this conference. Because we
have been delayed in putting up the web site for this conference, we
don't have a form for submitting abstracts yet. Please email abstracts
for talks, either for the general meeting or for either of the SIG
topics, to [log in to unmask] Please get talk submissions
in soon so that we can begin to shape up the agenda.
DINNER
The conference dinner will be held at the Computer History Museum
(http://www.computerhistory.org/) on Tuesday evening, October 11. The
evening will include a docent-led tour of the museum's exhibits. There
will be some guest appearances by former HEPiX (and HEPVM!) members.
LODGING
The sessions will be held on the SLAC site. A block of rooms has been
reserved for meeting attendees at the SLAC Guest House,
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/hds/SLAC/. The Guest House is an easy five
minute walk from the meeting room. To reserve one of the rooms in this
block, please use the following Web form:
http://fmp-web-2.stanford.edu/slacres/slacapp-SLAC-Group.html
In the "Eligibility" section of this form, give your affiliation as SLAC
and mention our group name, "HEPIX FALL 2005 WORKSHOP" in the "Reason
for visit" field.
