National e-Science Centre News

e-Infrastructure Policy Advisor

Educated to degree level or higher, and with extensive experience of the
research structure in the UK and related government organisations, you
will help to develop the e-Infrastructure for the UK. Liaising between
the National e-Science Centre and JISC, you will enable collaboration
and information exchange between the two bodies. You will inform JISC on
matters of e-Research and e-Infrastructure requirements within the UK,
and the e-Research community of the work of the JISC and the initiatives
it supports. Understanding of, and experience in the use of advanced
computing facilities is essential. This is an appointment at a senior
level and will be situated at the e-Science Institute in the centre of
Edinburgh.
Interviews will be held on the 21st of March 2005.

This event combines tutorials on Gridsphere and portlets programming
with the opportunity to discuss the portlets needs and issues of UK
e-Science projects. The first day will primarily consist of tutorial
presentations by members of the Gridsphere team. Following the
tutorials, other speakers will present their experiences with GridSphere
and portlets. Breakout sessions will allow topics to be explored in
further detail. The workshop will conclude with a general session,
including questions to the GridSphere team and discussion of future
developments.
This event is ideal for people who wish to learn about GridSphere and
portlet programming, and for people who are actively developing portals

5th annual Dependability IRC workshop, 15 March - 17 March 2005
The 5th annual plenary workshop of the DIRC project, an EPSRC funded
interdisciplinary research collaboration in the dependability of
computer based systems, led by Professor Cliff Jones at Newcastle and
including researchers from City, Edinburgh, Lancaster and York.
