Firstly an apology to those of you who get two copies of this...
There is a webcast entitled Beyond Einstein being broadcast from CERN
starting at 12.00 CERN time and lasting 12 hours. Different centres around
the world are hosting different sessions and Imperial is hosting a 2 hour
slot starting at 17.30 CET (16.30GMT). The first hour is on distributed
computing starting with the invention internet with live interviews with
Bob Kahn and Peter Kirstein, followed by the invention of the Web with a
live interview with Robert Cailliau and a recorded interview with Tim
Berners Lee, which inturn is followed by interviews and discussion
about Grids with Cark Kesselman, Bob Jones, Neil Geddes and Bruce
Allen. At the end of this section there is a Q&A section and people are
welcome to mail in questions to [log in to unmask] If people
from these lists mail in questions (and I hope that some of you will) be
aware that this webcast is aimed at an "Horizon" level of audience... i.e.
interested but in no way expert. Sarah, Bekki and I (from GridPP) have
been involved in setting this up.
The second hour is all about neutrino physics and has explanations of
neutrino oscilaations, the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems as well
as (I believe) the need for very intense neutrino beams. This section will
feature Dave Wark, Ken Long and Yoshi Uchida. It will have live linkups to
CERN->Gran Sasso and Ice Cube at the South Pole (we hope!). This hour will
also end with a 15minute Q&A and people are invited to email in question
to the same email address for this section as well using the same email
address, [log in to unmask]
