It really means you get grand mean scaling, even with the none option.
Note that in most instances GMS is a good idea.
AFAIK, the only way to turn grand mean scaling off completely is to alter
the SPM code. At least at the single subject level for fMRI; at the
second level, with the basic models option (this is SPM2 I'm referring
to), scaling isn't done unless you tell it to.
