Dear Pritha,
I'm not sure, but perhaps the .mat file got damaged while unpacking the
spm5 archive by your unpacking program. There are suggestions to solve
this issue on this mailing list (search the archives) and on the mathworks
site at www.mathworks.com. If I remember correctly, you have to turn off
any character or line-feed conversion in the unpacking program.
