Hi Joyce,
You should be able to get a new image by reslicing your original one.
The problem is that by means of the 'Display' button you'll only get (as
you stated) a mat file. If you want to get a new analyze image, you can
just go to 'ImCalc', and then select a new image file. When SPM asks
about what function you want to apply, just say: 'i1' (i1 refers to the
same image). If you open the new image with i.e. MRIcro you'll see you
are now ok.
