Its a bit off-topic - an argument for single files would be that one can
optimise the filesystem for larger files. If you have to store small
headers and large images then you always have a performance/storage
capacity decision to make: if your block sizes are small, then you don't
waste too much disk space for each 348+x bytes header, but then you have
to read many blocks for image files. On the other hand, with a block size
of several k or M it is (even for large disks) just a waste of space to
store small headers on such a filesystem...
