I did not see an answer to this one, so I will comment on it.
With 8 slices, you will not have a good chance to coregister/normalise
your data set since they cover only a very small part of the brain.
Realign will probably work, but you might lose voxels from the outer
slices if there is considerable movement.
For normalisation I would suggest to use a scanning protocol similar to
the 8 slices (e.g. same sequence, same angulation, same voxel size and
slice thickness), but with whole brain coverage. When you acquire this
image volume right before your 8 slices series, you can normalize the
whole brain volume and apply the parameters to the 8 slices volumes.
