Although I'd love to claim I'd been very clever or careful about unzipping, I
wasn't. I use a freeware program, Iceows to unzip (because it understands tar
etc):

I unzipped and untarred with iceows on windows xp and never saw any
problems...I
imagine that zip programs vary in how they handle subdirectories, especially
when handling tar and subdirectories.
