> Please, where can I find the soft SPM5 ?
SPM5 is now very close to being beta released, hopefully some time next week.
Because it is only a beta version, then we expect there to be a few bugs. We
will not be able to support this version, but we welcome people trying it out
and reporting bugs, bug fixes and suggested improvements - to both the code
and the documentation. By getting things fixed in the beta version, we hope
that the final version will run relatively smoothly.
To pre-empt a few of the questions:
1) Images will be written as NIFTI format, which means that going back to SPM2
after doing processing in SPM5b may be problematic. See
http://nifti.nimh.nih.gov/ for more information. The advantage of the NIFTI
format is that it is, or will be, supported by FSL, AFNI, BrainVovager and
various other fMRI data analysis packages. This means more interoperability
between packages, so if you don't like some part of SPM, then you could use
some other package instead.
2) It will work only in Matlab 6.5 and 7.
3) Any manual will initially be pretty rudimentary. Many of the options will
have their own documentation, which can be extracted and put into some sort
of manual.
4) MINC and ECAT7 images can not be read directly into SPM5a (but conversion
tools are provided).
5) The new-style interface is not yet ready for many of the options.
6) It crashes occasionally. This is normal for a beta version. If you can
feed back the error reports etc to us, then we can fix them and everybody
benefits.
Best regards,
-John
