Laboratory, Department of Psychiatry, Weill Medical College of Cornell
University in New York, NY for someone who matches the following
description:
Postdoctoral Associate or Research Associate in Functional Brain Imaging
Data Analysis
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Functional Neuroimaging Laboratory at Cornell Medical Center is
conducting exciting research with the cutting-edge technology of functional
magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). This technique allows for non-invasive
identification, localization, and characterization of patterns of brain
activity underlying human cognitive, emotional, perceptual and behavioral
processes, and their disruption in neuropsychiatric disorders.
Sophisticated mathematical, statistical and computational approaches in
image processing and data analysis are essential to this rapidly evolving
research field. The position entails:
- Participation in research software development as a member of a team
- Development, testing and maintenance of Unix shell script, C, MatLab
and R programs for brain image processing and analysis
- Production of associated documentation
- Performance of complex image and data analysis
- Preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals
- Supervision by laboratory image analysis scientist (electrical
engineer/mathematician /statistician)
- Interaction with systems administrator and scientists (software users)
in the lab
- Exposure to advanced brain-mind imaging research in an academic,
interdisciplinary, federally-funded medical setting (involving physicians,
neuroscientists, cognitive psychologists, physicists, mathematicians,
statisticians, engineers, and fellows/students). Mapping brain function
associated with perception, thought, emotion; and dysfunction associated
with conditions such as schizophrenia, depression and anxiety disorders
with a research-dedicated GE 3T MRI scanner and high-performance computing
clusters
Requirements: a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in Biomedical Engineering,
Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics
or a closely related field for the position. Must have knowledge of
statistics and programming skills with one of statistics packages such as
R, S-Plus and SAS. Strong programming skill in C, MATLAB, and UNIX and
Windows administration. Skill that would be a plus: Perl, Oracle, PL/SQL,
Java. Basic knowledge of cognitive neuroscience and biomedical imaging a
plus as well. Must be self motivated, resourceful, able to multi-task,
prioritize and be a team-player, and have excellent communication (verbal
