UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
Institute of Neurology
MS NMR Unit
CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW
Applications are invited for the above post based in the internationally
renowned MS NMR Research Unit, which will involve developing and
applying the latest MRI techniques, particularly diffusion tensor
imaging and functional MRI, to the visual pathways in patients following
acute optic neuritis. This exciting study will allow the appointee to
assess the contribution of brain reorganisation to clinical recovery,
and identify the relationship between structural and functional changes
in the brain. This will provide prognostic markers and potential
therapeutic targets for these patients.
Applicants should hold GMC registration and MRCP (or equivalent), have
previous experience in Neurology as an SHO or equivalent, and be
intending to pursue a career in clinical neurology. Excellent
organisational and IT skills, creativity, and the ability to act
independently, are also required. The appointee will be strongly
encouraged to undertake a higher degree; the post will thus provide
excellent training opportunities to broaden clinical and research skills
and generate publications.
The post is available immediately for three years. Starting salary on
the Clinical Academic (Specialist Registrar equivalent) scale up to
#33,756 p.a. inclusive, superannuable. A job description should first
be obtained from Miss E Bertram, Assistant Secretary (Personnel),
Institute of Neurology, The National Hospital for Neurology &
Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London WC1N 3BG (tel: 020 7676 2191; email:
[log in to unmask]), to whom applications should be sent by 22
April 2005. Informal enquiries welcome to Professor A J Thompson
(tel: 020 7837 3611, ext 4152; email: [log in to unmask]).
