I may have missed your point, but aren't there specific ways to address your
point 2 already by examining effective connectivity directly? There are a
number of available ways to do this. It seems to me that, as stated in more
eloquent ways by other in this thread, one just needs to be careful not to
make claims that are not explicitly tested for by the methods used.
