Here's my two cents. I think this is a sobering exercise:
METHOD
1. Take Gaussian IID data (or NULL fMRI data)
2. Smooth it.
3. Stick it into SPM with your current paradigm's design matrix
4. Plot an SPM map for your contrast of interest at p<0.001 UNCORRECTED
OBSERVATION
Well, I usually get a lot of activations. What do you get ?
