Hi Moo,
You may already have the original image. If I remember correctly, it was
generated from Colin H. See the spm_surf.m function for more information.
The cortical surface doesn't actually go that deep into the brain. I think
this is just an illusion. The surface extraction in SPM isn't especially
good.
