One problem is that R13 is not supported by Matlab on SUSE 9.2. SUSE 9.2
ships with glibc 2.3.3 and Mathworks support glibc 2.1.2 and 2.2.5 only:

Mathworks support is fanatical. Indeed they will absolutely refuse to
help in case of problems on systems that are not explictly supported,
they'll keep repeating "downgrade to a supported system". Of course the
distributions they support R13 on are so old, they won't work on any
recent workstation. Matlab is obviously a poor choice if you're
concerned about the perennity of your scientific data.
