SCOPE AND AIM OF THE TFG
------------------------

The scope of this second SELF-ORG TFG meeting is to continue the work on
self-organisation in the complex distributed systems such as MAS
initiated during the first TFG meeting in Rome. In order to have a
broader view, the multi-agent systems studied must be different in terms
of granularity, cardinality and heterogeneity of their agents. The point
of focus of the proposed TFG will be on approaches to incorporate
self-organisation mechanisms in the design of Multi-agent Systems. In
particular, the efforts will concentrate on attempting to answer
questions of major
interest such as:
. How could self-organisation mechanisms already applied in
other
disciplines be reused in the design of MAS?
. How could we derive appropriate self-organisation mechanisms
for MAS
starting from a set of application requirements?
. Can a set of criteria suitable for characterisation of self-
organisation and emergence in MAS be defined?
. How can we compare the different mechanism of
self-organisation? We
need to define criteria and measures.
. How to strengthen the links with other disciplines such as
biology,
    systemic, sociology and physics?

The TFG will concern itself with five main aims:
. Presentation from active participants of the way they apply
self-organisation in the different case studies elaborated
   after the Rome meeting.
. Definition of criteria and measures of self-organization.
. Definition of several notions with an interdisciplinary view
such
as: emergence, complexity, adaptive systems, providing their
commonalities and their differences, as well as the theories
behind
    each of them.
. Preliminary work towards the preparation of a book gathering
and
enhancing the results of the TFG.
. Grouping together the computing science research community
working
on self-organisation and emergent behaviour such as
multi-agent
    systems, autonomic computing, pervasive computing
. Establishing and enhancing links with other disciplines
through
contacts with networks such as EXYSTENCE, or researcher
community
involved in the new EU NESTPATHFINDER initiative (Tackling
    Complexity of Science).

WAYS TO PARTICIPATE
-------------------

You can participate in two ways:

a) by giving a talk concerning how you applied self-organisation in one
of the case studies selected in the previous meeting in Rome. Please
visit the TFGSO web site (http://www.irit.fr/TFGSO) for more information
on the case studies selected and do not hesitate to contact the
organisers if you need any further assistance.

b) by attending the meeting and taking part in the collaborative
sessions

NOTIFICATION OF PARTICIPATION AND REGISTRATION
----------------------------------------------

Please inform the chairs by mail of you your intention to participate as
soon as possible. Furthermore, please register your interest here
www.agentlink.org/activities/al3-tf/tf2/tf2interest.php

Registration forms will be sent out to all who have registered interest
shortly.

The final programme of the meeting will be announced in early February.

Details of the venue location will be announced at that time at the
Agentlink web-site http://www.agentlink.org/activities/al3-tf/tf2/.
