Science Policy Manager - Energy or Environment

As part of the Royal Society's Science Policy Section, you will join the Energy & Environment team. Recent projects by the team include coordinating the science academies G8 statement on climate change, a major report on ocean acidification and work on biodiversity, energy efficiency and radioactive waste management. Depending on your expertise and experience you will lead the Society's policy work in the area of either energy or the environment and contribute to work in the other areas covered by the team. Familiarity with current issues in either of these areas is essential, as is a proven ability to get rapidly up to speed in relatively unfamiliar policy areas. Applicants must have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (including science, engineering, social science or economics) and experience in the energy or environment policy arena. They must be able to manage several projects simultaneously, work to tight deadlines and be able to interact effectively with people at all levels. Experience of managing projects and supervising staff is essential.
Starting salary: circa £30,000 per annum

Events Officer

Working within our Events team, this is an exciting opportunity to administer and help further develop the Society's wide range of public programmes and events, including our scientific discussion meetings, medals and awards, and our summer science exhibition and soirées.
Applicants must be educated to degree level or equivalent with a minimum of two years office experience or A-level standard with five years office experience. Excellent computer skills and a thorough understanding of the world wide web are essential as well as the confidence and adaptability to liaise with a wide range of people. The ability to show initiative, establish priorities and pay attention to detail while maintaining an organised approach to work is also essential.
Salary: circa £21 000 per annum
