CARDIFF SCIENCE CAFÉ TUESDAY 26 JULY:
Something in the Water? The Hormonal Threat.
Dr Daire Casey, Reproductive Toxicologist
One of the latest threats highlighted by the media has been that of 'gender
bending' chemicals that mimic, and sometimes block the action of our own sex
hormones. These chemicals are reported to be everywhere, and their effects
so subtle that they act on our children instead of us. Come along and find
out about the science behind the attention-grabbing headlines. Are men more
sensitive to these chemicals than women, and is there anything we can do
about it?
The Cafe will be held at Journeys Bar, off Newport Rd, Cardiff from 7.30 pm,
entry free.
SWANSEA SCIENCE CAFE WEDNESDAY 27 JULY:
The future relation of computers and people
Dr Harold Thimbleby, University of Wales Swansea
Will computers solve all known problems or just add to them, making life
even more complex than it already is? Will computerised implants make our
lives healthier and easier, or will they be used to control us, turning us
into automatons? What are the human problems we really need to solve, and
how can computers help?
The Cafe will be held at the Dylan Thomas Centre, Somerset Place, Swansea
from 7.30 pm, entry free.
