Our cat Angus became ill on Friday night with a urinary infection. We hoped
that he was getting better but sadly he passed away yesterday. Angus was 17
years old. His infection was clearing up and the results of a blood test
looked hopeful but the illnesses he had, we think, just became too much for
him. He had cysts (which didn't trouble him), a heart murmur, and he was
coughing a great deal during the last two weeks of his life. Yesterday
early in the morning he woke up in a state and we called the vet. Sadly
before she could arrive he died of heart failure. There wasn't much the
vets could do given his age and his heart murmur.
My husband is devastated. He had Angus for four years before he met me. We
also keep canaries, budgies, and Gouldian finches. Angus never worried the
birds: he took no notice of them. He used to sleep under the budgie cage.
He was outstanding with them, especially considering that before I moved in
and we started to keep birds he had the whole house to himself. After we
bought our first budgie we kept him downstairs and shut all the doors when
we weren't home so he couldn't go upstairs to the birdroom. He never
complained. He was a devoted, gentle cat. He guarded our house from other
cats but he never fought. He was one stone 4 (18 pounds) of muscle: we
joked that when the other cats saw him they ran away.
Yours,
Ivy
