It's a French translation of *introducion a los vasos orficos*. It's all
about - what? Art, poetry, philosophy, the Ka, the I Ching, you name it.
Hyper-erudite. I take it in homeopathic doses.
Williams never rang my bell. I've thought of some more great writer
critics: Rilke, Paz (a special favourite), Mandelstam, Nabokov. Among
modern critics I have always got a lot out of Gabriel Josipovici
(invaluable on Perec). So all is not lost. The greatest critics of all
time were contemporaries - Coleridge and Hazlitt, enough for a lifetime.
