I'll go with Robin on this - as long as the NT is narrowed down to the
Gospels (and maybe there's even some violence there - I seem to remember
something about a wrathful God...) I could never come to terms with Paul,
despite that wonderful passage about seeing through a glass darkly: that's
where the rot really sets in.

Islam is precisely as peaceful as Christianity, in that it explicitly
forbids violence, and has had much violence committed and justified in its
name. (There's an awful lot of "in God's name" and "God is on our side"
stuff going on in Iraq at present - from the US). You seem to forget all the
laying waste to mine enemies that goes on in the OT.
And David, that kind of statement about Islam is precisely the kind of thing
I would like not to see on this list.
