From: "As it never was" by Peter Kravitz:
"Leonard's 'The Good Thief' had already appeared in the first issue of
Scottish International back in January 1968. When he had tried to publish
poems in Glasgow University Magazine the printer declined because of the
language. A few years later a typesetter wanted 'foreign language rates' for
some of his other Glasgow poems."

(Actually, and not to bore everyone utterly rigid, the above is slightly
inaccurate -- it was +Epos+ (the magazine of the GU Literary Society) not
GUM where the printer refused to print, and we solved the problem by
cyclostyling the poems and including them as an insert.
And it wasn't "The Good Thief" which caused the problem but the "language"
[sic -- not language] of two of the other +Six Glasgow Poems+ -- most of
all, I think, Number 4: "A Scream".
Details, details, all god's chickens got details.)
