Thanks douglas -I am always on the lookout for good sff books
-and very non pc I often come back to the old Lord of the Rings (on cassette
late at night when nodding off pure bliss) saw bit of the film was horrified
had to switch off
-isn't nice sometimes to revisit old auhtors -the Dozois Best new SF(seems
that Ihave mentioned this before

There are in fact a lot of good fantasy series out there (as well as
thousands of not so). I think Alison's is very near the top. I find
that the other two that are really first rate are much more about war &
empire, but they are terrific: the ongoing Malazan Books of the Dead by
anthropologist Steve Erikson & & the Prince of Nothing trilogy by Scott
Bakker.
I actually quite enjoyed Juliet E McKenna's 5 Tales of Einarinn, too.
Better not get me started...
