I got that wrong - Neher was cast as Polly, but missed the premiere
because of her husband's illness. She was an incredible star & Brecht's
favourite so got the main female role, but Lenya was cast in the minor
role of Spelunken-Jenny. Later Lenya sang both on record. Poor Carola
Neher escaped the Nazis only to die in a Soviet concentration camp in
1942, I've just discovered.
