Joanna,
Quite a story. I always thought dead-obvious advice on the lines of "don't handwrite letters" or "don't use paper with large coffee-ring-stains" was exaggerated to the point of being facetious. Apparently not so.
> And would you believe, the return envelope was 4 x 8 inches, with

> Well, I thought,
> that is not my problem.
I was surprised by this point in Chris' advice, about providing an envelope large enough (and with enough postage) to return the whole manuscript. I was under the impression most editors simply didn't return submitted material, being satisfied with sending a letter of rejection or (god forbid) acceptance?
