Heather Taylor’s “accents on words” with Aoife Mannix
Wednesday 23 November 2005
Heather and Aoife (EE-feh) wowed a hundred-plus folks for nearly an hour at Poetry Café in Covent Garden last night with their mixed poetry and guitar performance.
Heather presented tender, tense and humorous recollections of her North American childhood, of the father who travelled so much that his toddler daughter edged around him like a stranger. He later became the man she longed to understand---whose pains she wears too well.
Well paced and expressive in her delivery, Heather delighted the audience with her take on parental arguments, which always started with her “She’s immature; he’s selfish”---their passionate reconciliations perplexing Heather, until she grew up and did the same thing.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable reading greeted at the end by well deserved and extended applause.
