This morning I have been reading the background to this programme, which is
to be shown on Monday night, by the author on whose book the programme is
based. And he uses many phrases from my 1972 poem so we must both have
cribbed them from Owen Lattimore's book 'The Mongols' which was my source
material. I wrote the poem in a long summer afternoon after digesting the
book. Anny has it up at her website so I will give a link:

And I might as well add a link to its companion piece 'Hulagu's Ride' from
1996:

I usually post a poem at the weekend so here is a little one:. From my 'Two
poems for Sally Purcell'.
1. Again
In Intensive Care
As I realised that I was going to live
I wrote a note to my surgeon:
`Why did you save my life?
Now I will have to go back home
And suffer once again.'
I don't want to live
And
I don't want to die.
