Calling oneself a poet...this does not make me comfortable. I guess I'm
"in bed" with Robert Frost on this. Some Aspirant is supposed to have
gone over to the old guy once and introduced himself by saying "I'm a
poet." Frost replied "That's a praise word. Someone else has to call
you that." Even so: Robert Kroetsch called me that a long time ago and
I wanted to hide under the chair. It's not like being called a chemist
or bond analyst: "poet" is one of those words you have to live up to.
