> Unless, with true Christian compassion, you're trying to save our souls.
Mark, I know I deride my fellow "Christians" all the time. But in deference
to those amongst who strive for Christianity that is emboldened or softened
by characteristics other than hardline evangelicals or non-evangelicals I
would ask restraint from the implication of total damnnation. God knows they
give Satan lots of help, those folks. One may argue - his dance wiggle among
the Soviets notwithstanding - that G Bush behaves in the manner of an
Anti-Christ or a Wolf in Sheep's clothing, etc.
I am reminded of a company I worked for in Silicon Valley in which my VP was
Mohammed, and, in our new offices, the guy installing the phones was
Mohammed. So I joked to one Mohammed how interesting it was to be in a room
with two Mohammed's at the same time. I was quickly reminded that it was
hardly a joke - the number of Mohammed's so named among the one billion
Muslims on earth would fill a few major cities. And maybe, he added, I
might enjoy the fact that many so-named Mohammeds had been variously at war
with each other over the centuries for religious reasons, as well.
For example. I suspect (or know) white Christians have vastly varying
definitions and practices when it has come to compassion towards
African-Americans. So I suggest we remove the concept of Christian
Compassion from the vocabulary of most of us. Let's leave it to acts, and
just simply compassionate acts, most of which do not require scriptural
support.
Compassion to all,
Stephen V
