As to your comments on the problems associated with monotheism, there
was an interesting review of a book on oracles by James Davidson in he
December 2 2004 London Review of Books which seems to reach a similar
conclusion.
And a book I've mentioned before, Lewis Hyde's Trickster Makes This
World, also slyly suggests the superiority of polytheism, in ways I
found delightful....
