At this point it occurs to me to suggest to some activists-for-poetry groups
that a poetry month might well include a deal with big book-stores
(presuming they might be persuadable):
'this month only, a display stand of New Jersey [or whatever] poets' work,
with their choices of favourite books beyond...manned smilingly by a team of
local poets keen to answer questions, talk over anything to do with poetry,
read bits aloud, listen patiently while elderly individuals prove they can
still recite Poe, etc. Chats with highschool students a specialty.'
or maybe something like this already happens, unknown to me in quiet
Melbourne...I do now remember one of those (campus) bookshop desks manned by
a poet ready to sign his new and inexpensive book. In the next building he
had just impressed a roomfull of keen listeners. Nobody made it next door to
the shop.
