Can you find an example of some free verse that you *can't* read as
"homing" on the iambic pentameter? Can you say what the difference is
between that verse and some free verse that you think *does* home on
the iambic pentameter?
It seems to me that any metrically complex and varied verse is likely
to throw up patterns that can be "recognised" as iambic pentameter.
One is entitled to recognise whatever one likes, in art as in nature;
but to allow those perceptions to harden into a reductionist theory is
to close and lock the prison door behind you. Now you're insisting
that others share your cell...
