Not all, although Sendak certainly did. I know a number of quite fine
Canadian writers who have not done so, including post bpNichol, & a
fine local children's writer, who does start with oral tales he has
brought from Africa. But at a reading here recently, he talked about
the surprise of seeing how 'the artist' had taken his words &
visualized them.... His name is Tololwa M Mollel, & he is certainly a
delight in person, performing his little tales....
