Maybe I should have shown her before
But she was so pleasantly surprised
Yesterday
When I picked weeds out of the grass
And talked to the neighbour
And her six month old in her arms.
Perhaps I should have shown her before
That I am a regular bloke, with mild
Strength
When it is needed out in the world
And social graces to appease the times
And enough breeding to pass muster.
Not sure what image of me she had
Chiselled in her mind with my words and
Performance,
The private art and the public face
Like a classic ice sculpture of my sort,
Now melting in the light of everyday.
