Well, my earlier pseudo-bohemian distaste for sport contributed to dulling
my mind - I now believe a fit writer is more likely to succeeed
(aesthetically, I mean) than a couch potato. My schoolboy addiction to long
distance running gave me a life time habit of walking. & I find walking a
great inspiration - out in the sun or moonlight, in urbanished nature, among
the petty dreams of the pedestrian populace. So great feats of endurance and
strength of mind and (that magic word) persistence impress me - including
Alison writing her 490+ pages and Lleyton coming from behind to win after a
gruelling five sets.
As to the commentators, I listen to them as I listen to people at the
supermarket - to pick up how English is spake in various quarters. JA is
great for that - like Bill Lawry for cricket commentary. I value the tussle
between Tony Greig and Bill Lawry every Summer ... and miss McGillvray
(spl?).
English = she is a great sport, mate.
