Practical Connections
Edinburgh European Practitioners' Forum
8th - 10th September 2005
At the Gateway Theatre, Edinburgh, Scotland
Background to Forum:
Practical Connections is an innovative event for practitioners and researchers
from across Europe who work in community and participatory arts.
Practical Connections is an opportunity to examine our work through practical
presentations, workshops and debates in the following areas:
Community & Participatory Arts
Drama for Development
Cultural and Community Development
Development through the Arts
Arts and Education
The two strands of practice and research will be interwoven in sessions which are
within the framework of Practice-as-Research. The Forum will focus on
participative practice-as-research.
Researchers and practitioners from across Europe and in particular from the East
of Europe will meet to create dialogue in these areas.
Throughout the Forum experienced critical commentators will contribute to the
documenting of this event, drawing out emergent themes and pedagogies. Their areas
of expertise include psychology, anthropology, community theatre, human ecology,
management, literary and visual dramaturgy.
The Forum will also explore and examine ways of documenting practice-as-research
and it is anticipated that publication of proceedings will take a variety of forms.
The Trustees and editorial team of MAiLOUT (the British Isles-wide publication
covering community and participatory arts) will also be participating with a daily
commentary on proceedings.
The format of each day will involved 6 practice led sessions with time for debate
and reflection. Participants who are involved in the Community Programme at the
Gateway will also be with us for parts of the three days to inform the dialogue.
The evenings will be taken up with performances and the world (in)famous Scottish
ceilidh.
If you would like to participate in the Forum, please complete the booking form
and send it to the Centre.
You can contact us at the Centre on + 44 (0) 131 317 3979, please ask to speak
with Stephanie, Gavin or Deborah.
