WARWICK BUSINESS SCHOOL / KOIOS
ESRC CASE PHD STUDENTSHIP IN PROBLEM STRUCTURING METHODS
The Operational Research and Information Systems Group, Warwick Business
School, University of Warwick, and KOIOS (a UK-based management consultancy
that specialises in advising public and private sector organisations on
strategic development issues) invite applications for a doctoral research
studentship (to commence in October 2005) in the field of problem
structuring methods, and supported by the ESRC Collaborative Studentship
Scheme.
The research project, to be supervised by Alberto Franco and Maureen
Meadows, involves the use of problem structuring methods (PSMs) and their
impact upon the quality of group dialogue during strategic development. It
represents an opportunity to join a lively, interdisciplinary research
environment within a prestigious business school.
The successful candidate should have a good first degree (2i or above), and
an MSc in a related area. They should also have good negotiation and
communication skills (including fluent spoken and written English), and a
good grasp of modern computer tools (office software, internet tools etc.).
The studentship, open to UK and other EU nationals, is funded by the ESRC
Collaborative Studentship Scheme and by KOIOS, and includes full fees for
PhD registration, a budget for research expenses and, for UK students only,
a maintenance grant (£11,300 pa approximately) for a period of 3 years
(subject to satisfactory progress). Teaching opportunities may be
available after the first year. A course in research methods and
management will be provided.
